Policy document 2005-2010

In order to fulfil his mission, after a period of familiarisation and study, the Flemish Government Architect drew up a policy document for his period of office, 2005 – 2010. This mission comprises helping to create a high quality architectural environment (buildings, infrastructure, landscape) in Flanders through long-term vision, in consultation with different administrations and involved external parties, to contribute towards policy preparation and execution of the architectural strategy of the Flemish Government.

After talks with the inter-cabinet working group, the Flemish Government has, via a 'Communication to the Government', taken note of the Flemish Government Architect's policy vision. The policy note will hereafter be introduced  before the Flemish Parliament for discussion in a mixed committee meeting.
Central to the policy is the argument of commitment as a benchmark for architecture and to this project as a qualitative gauge.

In the policy document he also indicated different areas of activity where more focused attention needs to be given to improving the quality of the built environment. In addition, he explained how the Flemish Government Architect can work to facilitate such a development.

This document will have a great value over the next few years as a common theme through which the work of the Flemish Government Architect and his team can earn a good reputation. An annual working programme will be developed through which different concrete initiatives can become part of the global policy visions and of this policy document.
